I've been fascinated by art since childhood--particularly the dreamscapes and private worlds of surrealists such as Yves Tanguy and Salvador Dali. Although I devoted most every moment of my free time as a teenager to drawing and painting, I ended up pursuing an education in the sciences. In 1994, I graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering, and in 1999 I completed doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania in the same field. Upon graduation, however, I decided to return to my earlier love for the arts and work toward a professional career as an artist.
In the years that followed, I have exhibited original and media-inspired artwork at conventions across the country. I have also worked on an illustration project for a series of children's books and CDs. More recently, I have expanded my interest in the arts and crafts to include jewelry design, creating "wearable art" in semiprecious stones and unique materials. I have studied drawing and painting at several schools as well as participated in workshop courses in old master painting techniques to expand my work into oil painting and explore more traditional methods.
